Only samples for ephemeral properties, pilot studies, and shipboard analysis were taken onboard. However, residues were reallocated to help formulate post-cruise sample requests. All personal sampling is deferred to the post-cruise sample parties at the Gulf Coast Repository (GCR) and Bremen Core Repository (BCR) in November 2022 and January 2023, respectively.
Shipments
13 pallets of archive Archive and working Working boxes will be shipped from Cape Town to the Gulf Coast Repository (GCR) in College Station, Texas. This includes 59 boxes of Expeditions 390C/395E archive Archive halves that were described during on Expedition 390 and 117 Expedition 390 archive Archive core boxes. 28 boxes of hard rock working Working core boxes from Expeditions 390C/395E/390 will also be sent to the GCR. 32 boxes of sediment working core boxes and 1 pallet of residues will remain onboard until the 397P port call.

U1556C and U1559D consisted of large volumes of core being sampled for chemistry and microbiology. The catwalk sampling strategies for each Site differed based on what was recovered on Expedition 390C. An example is shown in Figure 2.

133 smear slides were prepared and described by the shipboard sedimentologists. All smear slides will be shipped to the BCR. A smear slide inventory will be sent electronically to the BCR.
Thin Sections
A total of 107 99 thin sections were made during the expedition. They will be shipped back to the BCR with the expedition residues. A thin section inventory will be sent electronically to the BCR.

Crushed and Shattered Liner: Core liners that were crushed or shattered were reinforced with acetone and liner patch on the catwalk
Miscellaneous
390SURF – : U1558A and U1560A from Expeditions 390C/395E will remain on board to be described by the shipboard Expedition 393 core describers.
Archive Half Scrapings: Archive half scrapings were bagged and labeled by section. They will be sent to the BCR.
PFT Tracer Samples – : Samples for PMFD contamination tracing were taken for microbiology in each core. These samples were entered as ‘PFT’ tests and will remain onboard until 397P or 397T to be run on the ship during 397P/397T.
