JRSO Mini Projects V1

JRSO Mini Projects Guidelines
Goals:

  • Ensure small interdepartmental projects are accomplished with the right amount of planning and involvement by the most appropriate people, with a minimal amount of administrative overhead.

  • Promote and encourage good planning practices throughout JRSO.

Scope:

  • Mini Projects satisfy a business need.

  • Mini projects replace a product or service with a similar capability.

  • Mini projects may incorporate minor enhancements to existing products or services.

  • Mini projects are low risk and not complex.

  • Mini projects require few resources (time and people):

    • They are completed within eight weeks.

    • They fit within the timeframe of a single expedition, if accomplished on the JR.

Out of Scope:

  • New initiatives or capabilities.

Process Requirements:

  • All mini projects fol

low JRSO fundamental planning processes. This includes a written plan with scope statement, requirements and specifications.

  • The scope statement is the primary communication tool used to inform appropriate people about work to be accomplished.

  • Mini projects are coordinated by a project manager, who is assigned by the supervisors providing resources to the project.

  • Mini project documents are reviewed by the supervisors who are responsible for successful project execution and completion.

  • The project manager and associated supervisors ensure all appropriate people are kept informed about plans and work (e.g., not just one shift of the JR).

Approval:

  • Mini project execution is approved by consensus from appropriate supervisors (i.e., supervisors who contribute resources to the project). Supervisors are responsible for ensuring additional project work can be achieved without disrupting routine operations and maintenance.

  • The Management Team (director and managers) will be notified about mini projects before execution.
