T-Shirt Pressing Party

Preparation

  1. Gather as many scissors are you can find. You might want to temporarily check out scissors from the store in the Upper-tween.

  2. Move the heat press to the conference room. The heat press is located in conference room on the shelf under the stereo and PC.

  3. Separate the take-home logos from the ones that need to be pressed.

  4. About hour before the pressing party, turn on the heat press. Make sure settings are for about 350-375°F. Also, make sure it is propped open when left unattended.

During Pressing party

  1. Get volunteers to neatly cut around the logo on the dark transfer paper. Note that the light colored transfer paper does not need to be cut out as any white parts of the logo will be transparent.

  2. Next, get another volunteer(s) to peel the corner of the dark transfer paper to speed-up the pressing process.

Pressing instructions

Caution: High Temperature surface on the heat press may cause burns.

NOTE: It is helpful to heat press the shirt without a logo for about 5 seconds before placing the logo on the shirt. This removes any moisture from the shirt material. Avoid placing logo on areas where buttons or collar may come through during pressing. Some T-shirt materials may shrivel, change color or melt in the heat - if unsure, test a corner of the shirt first. To align the logo on the shirt use the wooden shirt/logo template. Place shirt on wooden template and align the pink zip-ties to each side of the hinge on the press. The template can be rotated depending on the size of the shirt. Test the first heat transfer on a white rag. Test both the light and dark transfers. Instructions for heat pressing below.

Dark Transfers

  1. Before heat transferring to dark T-shirt, take the paper back off the logo. Carefully place the logo with the print side up on the garment. Use the wooden template or a piece of cardboard (smooth cardboard) on the inside of the T-shirt under the logo.

  2. Place a piece of parchment paper over the logo so it does not stick to the top of the heat press. Be careful to not let the edges of the logo roll due to the heat. Take your time and position the logo evenly.

  3. Gentle lower the heat press onto the shirt and count to 30 seconds (it might take up to 1 min, if the heat transfer paper if older).

  4. Carefully lift the heat press - test to see if the logo took - pull a corner of the parchment paper off to check. If it did not stick to the shirt press again for about 10 seconds.

  5. When done remove the shirt and lay flat to cool. Once cooled remove the parchment paper.

Light Transfers

  1. Place transfer logo with printed side down on the light t-shirt. Use the wooden template or a piece of cardboard inside the t-shirt where the logo will be printed.

  2. Gently close the heat press for 30 seconds (it might take up to 1 min, if the heat transfer paper if older).

  3. Carefully open the heat press - test the logo transfer by gently lifting the corner of the transfer paper - if logo has not taken to shirt lower the press for another 10 seconds or more if needed.

  4. Remove shirt from press and gently remove the back of the transfer paper immediately.
