Instrument check as part of KTLF
The D-tech AF demagnetizer is controlled by a laptop (PC) which was not changed during the expedition. Tie-up time allows instrument checking which is not routinely performed because a pmag instrument is pretty stable over time. A tuning coil check was conducted to verify if the selected AF value in the software actually corresponds to the AF applied by the instrument. A first check with the tuning coil suggests that the applied field is lower than the selected value in the software. A second check was performed later. Make sure that the tuning coil inside the D-tech is well located. Measurements vary a lot from one region of the D-tech to another.
Transfer function used: B (Oe) = 464.12 X voltage (V)
