DEMOB/ iGCR: Applied Physics Fluxgate Magnetometer Model 520

The main use of the Applied Physics Fluxgate Magnetometer Model 520 is for measuring the internal field profile of the SRM.Ā

The units power on normal 110V plugs.

Main Instrument

There are two separate Fluxgate Magnetometer with two probes and connecting cables in the lab. The probes and cables are stored in the smaller mu-metal shielded bin to avoid them acquiring a magnetization which will affect the net field when measuring the SRM profile. One of the connecting cables has a custom 3D-printed connector (Bendix PT-06; X393) on the probe end as it was found that this was the component of the system often strongly magnetized and is in close proximity to the probe itself. The original coupler is still kept with all of the other cables in the shielded bin.

Connectivity

The unit has a female Bendix PT-06 connection to the cable and the probe has a male of the same type. The cable is appropriately matched.

The front of the unit has a BNC jack with an X, Y, or Z selector knob (currently not used).

The read of the unit has the typical IEC 110V power connector, replaceable fuse, and a BNC jack for each axis. These BNC connections are used with the SRM USB-6008 to monitor the measured field before, during, after trapping a null-field as well as measuring the SRM internal-field profile in general, all typically done with DAFI with IMS "DAFI" (LCD displays on the unit are also possible, but much less convenient than using the USB-6008).

The 3 separate XYX BNC connectors to use with the IMS SRM USB-6008 for measuring

the SRM'S internal field. Also shown are the the fuse and the IECĀ  connector.

Accessories

There are two separate Fluxgate probes with the associated cables (Bendix PT-06 connectors) and a BNC cable. The probes are stored in foam and stabilized in foam as well. All of this is packed into the small Mu-metal shielded bin. The small shielded bin in then stored nested in the larger Mu-metal bin for shipping.

The probes securely stowed in the small Mu-metal bin

The cables are also stored in the same bin
