Tasks

Fix broken links in Lab Notebook confluence page
Continue updating instrument status/info links above
Consolidate soft sediment procedures into a page devoted to sediment methods, or organized as you see fit
Create comprehensive preventative maintenance page with tasks and how often they should be done
Organize "quick links" and "work in progress" areas, make them more useable and searchable, like instead of word docs or pdf's insert the info directly into a confluence page
Some items/pages should be moved from "Laboratory Manuals Guides and Resources" and put in Laboratory Notebook instead, like taking apart the jigs, any other maintenance type things
Update lab inventory sheet with only current and used items.  A lot are maybe obsolete and don't need to be on the printed sheet anymore?

Past Issues

Equipment Issues/Maintenance History

Logitech Abrasive Autofeed Cylinders

  • Nov 15, 2020 Disassembled, cleaned and maintenanced. Upon reassembly, I (Luan) was having trouble with adjusting the drip rate down, but with help from Susan and John McCrossan (Logitech Process Engineer) I reassembled it properly. Instructions for the reassembly of cylinder valve are here and on the Thin Section lab computer.

Non-Equipment Issues

Epo-tek 301 1LB Kit

  • Aug 13, 2019 All remaining unexpired Epo-tek epoxy (5 kits) will expire on October 30, 2019. This was communicated to current ALOs/LOs and the LO of the upcoming expedition (during which epoxy will expire). Recommendation was made that that epoxy should be ordered 3 bottles at a time with no less than 6 months in between orders, since the storage shelf life is only 12 months. End-of-expedition cleanup list was edited to add an action item "Perform a physical account of epoxy and update the AMS check-out sheet, taking into account the expiration date of unopened bottles".

  • Aug 8, 2019 Chemistry Technician Vincent Percuoco requested that Thin Section Technicians use 1 mL disposable transfer pipettors for Epo-tek epoxy in order to avoid epoxy damage sustained on non-disposable pipettors.

Zeiss Petrographic Microscope

  • Jul 23, 2019 Thin-section lab microscope was removed and replaced with microscope previously located in the smear slide area. The new microscope is larger, has more features, and is much cleaner than previous lab microscope.
