Dec 17, 2022 There is a box under the upper tween stairs containing four new elements for the furnace.Â
Oct 6, 2022Â The Muffle Furnace was serviced and all four elements where replaced with new ones. The furnace was re-circuited to work with all four elements. Samples where run afterwards and everything is in order and it is working as it should.Â

May 28, 2022 Furnace door is still secure.
Nov 10, 2021Â Paint around door of muffle furnace is flaking. The door was not securing properly (there is some give when it is shut) which is causing heat to escape and damaging the paint around the door. We fixed the door latch (latch can be adjusted to accommodate the compaction of the door insulation over time) to remove the 'give', keep your eye on it and if it continues to come loose we need to order a new latch. The internal thick insulation on the top is cracked (can it be replaced? does it need to be replaced?). Remember to vacuum out the muffle furnace before putting samples in, the flaking paint can contaminate the ICP samples.
Aug 16, 2021 A loose wire caused the transformer that the muffle furnace was connect to to blow. This transformer was also wired to the CHNS in the chemistry lab. SIEM electricians replaced some wiring, tested all wiring, and the furnace is operational again.
